Hello! We’re Duck Egg Blue — better known to friends and family as Craig and Kait.

We met at university in Nottingham in the late 1990s, studying graphic design and illustration. After graduating, we each spent several years working as in-house designers, predominantly in children’s publishing and the toys and games market, before setting up Duck Egg Blue in 2006. Since then, we’ve developed, designed and project-managed hundreds of children’s books for publishers in the UK and internationally, as well as creating educational games, puzzles and other products for children. Along the way, we’ve built up a trusted network of talented authors, editors and illustrators with whom we love to collaborate.

At the heart of what we do is children’s book development and packaging. Clients often come to us with an initial idea, which we can take through the entire creative process — developing and shaping the concept, planning and editing the content, commissioning and art-directing illustrators, designing the book and preparing final artwork ready for print.

Every project is different, so our involvement can be tailored to suit. Most often, we take responsibility for developing and managing the complete book, but we’re equally happy to work on design and illustration, or purely on design when that’s what a project requires. Over the years that has meant everything from baby board books and activity titles to encyclopedias and treasuries, as well as complete ranges of educational games and puzzles and large-format displays for schools.

Whatever the project, we still love what brought us together in the first place: creating imaginative, engaging and beautifully designed things for young people.
