We were commissioned to design this 256pp illustrated treasury as a follow-up title to Hans Christian Andersen, which we’d worked on the year before.
Our brief was to create a beautiful, contemporary-classic, hardbound treasury for older children, featuring eleven of the Grimm’s most famous tales. With a higher text-to-artwork ratio than many treasuries we’ve worked on, we needed to ensure the layouts remained exciting and interesting, and achieved this by creating a variety of full bleed pages, bookplate frames and spot arts interspersed with single-colour decorative embellishments and a sensitive play on negative space.
